2024 Life Development Retreat

The Foundation is again proud to present its Life Development Retreat for young adults, ages 16-22, with Muscular Dystrophy (MD). This 4-day Retreat, set in the beautiful foothills of Yosemite at Camp Tuolumne Trails, provides a select group of young adults a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain valuable life skills while enjoying the great outdoors.
Often, young adults with disabilities enter adulthood without knowing how to advocate for their Independence. This Retreat provides information about Independent Living, Disability Rights and Disability History, Higher Education, Accessible Housing, Financial/Benefits Planning, Employment, Dating and Relationships, Self-Managing Healthcare, and much more! Daily activities, beyond learning sessions, include swimming, adaptive sports, accessible hiking trails, campfires, and teambuilding.
This unique Retreat is led by adults with Muscular Dystrophy who are living independently and who are passionate about assisting young adults through the transition process. Our goal is to empower young adults with MD with the tools needed to move forward into Independence!

Retreat Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed for our Life Development Retreat July 26-29, 2024. The Retreat is located in the foothills of Yosemite at Tuolumne Trails Campground, and we are currently looking for both male and female volunteers who can assist with the personal care and all daily activities of these young adults.
This incredibly rewarding experience makes it possible for our young adults to experience Independence for the first time and the ability to take away valuable resources needed for a successful entry into adulthood.
Mileage, food, lodging, and a small stipend will be provided for all volunteers.
